US Senator LaPhonza Butler, President of SEIU Local 2015, is pushing for the inclusion of Black women in environmental justice conversations. She believes that climate change and environmental justice are not separate from racial justice. Senator Butler is calling for support from Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She is advocating for the passing of the Environmental Justice for All Act, which is co-sponsored by Senator Cory Booker and Representative Raul Grijalva. The Act aims to address the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on communities of color and low-income communities.
