U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer is advocating for better funding for Fort Drum firefighters in upstate New York. After a recent visit to the military base, Schumer stressed the importance of adequate funding for the firefighters to ensure their safety and to maintain the readiness of the base. In order to address this issue, he is pushing for the passage of two bills. The first, the Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP), would provide funds to improve local community infrastructure supporting military installations. The second, the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act, would establish a national registry to monitor and investigate the incidences of cancer among firefighters.
