US Senator Chuck Schumer and other lawmakers are calling for the release of Imran Khan, a Pakistani dissident who has been imprisoned since 2019. Khan, a critic of Pakistan’s government, was arrested under Pakistan’s Electronic Crimes Act. Schumer has written a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging the State Department to take a stand against Khan’s imprisonment, citing concerns about freedom of speech and human rights abuses in Pakistan. Schumer’s letter was co-signed by Senators Bob Menendez, Marco Rubio, and Chris Coons.
