Padilla, Butler Introduce Bill to Double Pell Grant, Make College More Affordable

US Senators Alex Padilla and Raphael Warnock have introduced the Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act to increase the maximum Pell Grant award to $13,000 and make the grant available to DREAMers. The bill also proposes to index the Pell Grant to inflation and extend the grant’s lifetime eligibility from 12 to 14 semesters. Additionally, the bill includes provisions to reinstate Pell Grant eligibility for incarcerated individuals and those defrauded by their institution.
