California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Laphonza Butler to the position of Senior Adviser for Policy and Strategy. Butler, who worked as the president of SEIU Local 2015 and co-chair of Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, will be focusing on child care, paid family leave, and income inequality. Newsom stated that Butler’s experience and leadership will be instrumental in helping the state recover from the pandemic. In her new role, Butler will be working on the state’s budget, economic recovery, and policy making.
