US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized President Donald Trump’s administration for its anti-abortion policies, including the “Mexico City Policy”. Schumer particularly took issue with the policy’s expansion that now includes all global health assistance, not just family planning funding. Trump’s administration has also proposed cutting funding to the United Nations Population Fund, which provides family planning and reproductive health services to women worldwide. Schumer, along with Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Patty Murray, is looking to overturn the Mexico City Policy through the Global Health, Empowerment and Rights (HER) Act.
