After NY EEE death, Schumer calls for $65 million to combat mosquito-borne diseases

US Senator Charles Schumer is urging the Trump administration to release $65 million in funds to help combat mosquito-borne diseases in the wake of a death in New York from Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). He also seeks to increase Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funding to combat the diseases in the 2021 budget. Schumer is pushing for the Senate to pass the Strengthening Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health (SMASH) Act, already approved by the House, which would increase resources for state and local governments to fight diseases spread by mosquitoes.
